Flashlight Maintenance

Congratulations!  You are the owner of an Elzetta Modular Flashlight; The Toughest Flashlight on the Planet.  Undoubtedly, you will want to keep your Light looking and operating its best.  Fortunately, this is simple and easy to do.

The most obvious maintenance procedure is basic cleaning.  Dirt and other contaminants will inevitably find their way onto the surface of your Modular Flashlight.  Elzetta Modular Flashlights are waterproof and impervious to most cleaners so feel free to give your Light a bath (with fully-potted electronics, even if water were to get inside your Elzetta Modular Flashlight the electronics are completely sealed and protected from water damage.).  Simply toss it in a bucket of soapy water and scrub it with a soft bristle brush.  Rinse it with clean water, dry it off, and you’re done.  Pay particular attention to remove any contaminants that have stuck to the surface of the lens as such debris can impede light output.

If you’re fussy about the appearance of your Modular Flashlight and want to restore a factory-fresh look, a couple tricks can bring back that pristine finish.  First, take a small piece of Nevr-Dull™ wadding and scrub the laser engraving in the logo pockets.  The polish in the wadding will remove oxidation from the engraving and restore a sharp fresh image.  Next, remove the residual polish and then wipe the entire flashlight with a light gun oil or CLP.  Finally, wipe the oil off and buff with a lint-free cloth.  Your battle-worn Modular Flashlight will look like it just came out of the package.

Once the cosmetics have been taken care of, it is wise to inspect the o-ring seals periodically.  Under normal use, o-rings in an Elzetta Modular Flashlight will last for years, but it is good to look at them when you are cleaning the Light.  If you see any cracks, cuts, or deformations, the o-rings should be replaced.  A comprehensive O-Ring Kit is available that contains all o-rings for any Elzetta Modular Flashlight.  If one o-ring needs replacement, it is a good time to replace them all and the O-Ring Kit will allow just that.

Finally, the Tailcap threads and the Tailcap o-ring should be kept lubricated.  To do this, simply remove the Tailcap, wipe away any old grease, and coat the threads and o-ring with nonconductive grease (Dow Corning Molykote 55 and FrogLube Paste work well).  Be sure to keep the outermost surface of the Tailcap threads on the Body clean and free from grease.  Reinstall the Tailcap and test functionality.

With these simple maintenance steps, your Elzetta Modular Flashlight should give you miles and miles of happy service.
