Q: How do the Elzetta Tailcaps differ from one another?

A: Elzetta Tailcaps operate as follows:

1) Rotary TailcapMomentary Activation is achieved by pressing the pushbutton. Constant On is achieved by rotating the Tailcap fully clockwise.

2) Click TailcapMomentary Activation is achieved by pressing the pushbutton lightly. Constant On is achieved by pressing the pushbutton firmly until it ‘Clicks’ (pressing firmly again will Click the Light off).

3) High/Low TailcapActivation is achieved exactly like the Click Tailcap described above in either the High or Low mode.

High Output occurs when the Tailcap is rotated fully Clockwise (screwed all the way on).

Low Output occurs when the Tailcap is rotated Counter-Clockwise (unscrewed) anywhere from a few degrees to 1/4 rotation from the High position.

4) High/Strobe Tailcap – operation is just like the High/Low Tailcap, but a high-frequency strobe replaces the ‘Low’ mode. Unlike competitive designs, no multiple clicks, no confusing menus, no precise movements are required to change modes and there is no battery drain when the flashlight is not in use. See demonstration video below (3:31).

5) 5″ Remote Tape Switch – Momentary Activation is achieved by pressing the pressure pad. Constant On is achieved by rotating the Tailcap fully clockwise (even if the cable is completely severed, the tailcap controls the power On/Off).

6) 12″ Remote Tape SwitchMomentary Activation is achieved by pressing the pushbutton. Constant On is achieved by rotating the Tailcap fully clockwise (even if the cable is completely severed, the tailcap controls the power On/Off).

A: Yes. Elzetta Flashlight components are interchangeable, interoperable, and available individually for simple changes modifications or upgrades within the Bravo and Charlie lines.

Alpha models feature interchangeable Bezel Rings, Optical Lenses, and Tailcaps within the Alpha product line.

Bones flashlights do not have interchangeable components except for the Optical Lenses.

G-Line EDC flashlights do not have interchangeable components.

Q: What is the advantage of a 3-Cell Model?

A: 3-Cell Charlie bodies provide higher output and longer runtime than 2-Cell Bravo bodies.

With High Output models, Elzetta AVS technology automatically senses the 3-Cell input voltage and produces 1350 lumens of light, while the AVS Head produces 850 lumens in a 2-Cell Bravo body.

With High Candela (HC) models, the AVS technology automatically senses the 3-Cell input voltage and produces a very concentrated 900 lumens at an extremely bright 26,250 candela, while the HC Head produces 600 lumens at 15,750 candela in a 2-Cell Bravo body.

Q: From what material are Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights made?

A: All exterior components of Elzetta are made from Mil-Spec Type III Hard Anodized 6061-T6 Aluminum. The lenses are made from optical grade polycarbonate acrylic material, the same material used to make shark tanks, for clarity and strength.

Q: What are the weight and dimensions of Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights?

A: Every Elzetta Flashlight has a body diameter of 0.99″ (25 mm) (1-inch nominal).

Model-specific measurements are found on the model’s particular webpage under the “Additional Information” tab.

Q: When installing an Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlight in an Elzetta Flashlight Mount (ZFH1500 or ZSM) are the Sizing Adapters needed?

A: No, with its 1-inch body, Elzetta Flashlights fit all Elzetta Flashlight Mounts without the Sizing Adapters. (Sizing Adapters are to accommodate flashlights with diameters less than 0.97 inches.)

Q: Are Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights compatible with Surefire P60 light modules?

A: No. Elzetta Flashlights have been specifically designed and optimized exclusively for Elzetta High Output Heads and/or Malkoff Devices M60 LED modules. Units from Surefire or other manufacturers are not compatible. Use of other devices should not be attempted.

Q: Why is there grease inside the Bodies of Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights?

A: Elzetta Flashlights have been designed to optimize electrical and thermal conduction with the LED module. The grease enhances this conduction while inhibiting corrosion.

Q: Must the outer-body O-rings be used to mount Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights in Elzetta Tactical Flashlight Holder Mounts?

A: No. The outer-body O-rings, which are included with Elzetta Flashlights, provide additional retention strength when properly installed in Elzetta Tactical Flashlight Holders but are generally not required.

Q: Why do Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights get warm during extended operation?

A: LED modules, with their extremely high output Light Emitting Diodes, naturally produce heat. Elzetta Flashlights have been designed to efficiently conduct this heat into the aluminum body to extend the performance of the flashlight. Discontinue hand-held use if the temperature of the body becomes uncomfortably warm.

Q: Are batteries included with Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights?

A: Yes, each complete Elzetta Tactical Light comes with a fresh set of USA Made 123A lithium batteries.

Q: Will an Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlight run on rechargeable RCR123 batteries?

A: Alpha and Bravo Models may be operated on RCR123 batteries for non-critical applications, but Charlie Models should not use these batteries in most cases, as the most common rechargeable cells are longer than primary CR123a cells and they they will not fit properly.

We recommend the LFP123A, a lithium iron phosphate cell from K2 Energy. Each cell is the same length as a primary CR123 and the voltage is the same as well (3.2V 600mAhr). And, yes, the LFP123A from K2 is Made in the USA.

Q: Are Lanyard Rings available for Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlights?

A: Yes. Lanyard rings are available for Elzetta Tactical Flashlights and may be purchased on the Parts & Accessories page.

Q: Where are Elzetta Z-Line Tactical LED Flashlights made?

A: All Elzetta Z-Line products (unless otherwise indicated), including Flashlights, are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Kentucky, USA, using American materials, tooling, and labor.

Q: Does the Alpha Gen3 have a strobe function in all the tailcaps?

A: No. The Alpha Gen3 models have the Strobe function integrated into the head. It is triggered by double-tapping the tailcap, but NONE of the Alpha tailcaps have a strobe function. As for Bravo and Charlie, there is only one tailcap that has a strobe function.

Q: Is the Bones 850 lumen version noticeable brighter than the 650 version with its whiter (6000k) tint?

A: It is noticeably brighter.

Q: The picture of the Bones Flashlight on the website shows darker anodizing than the light grey of my Bones. Is this the case?

A: The anodizing has been darker than previous years due to some process changes, BUT it can vary greatly from light to dark, even between components.  Black is far more consistent.

Q: Why are the color temperatures (CCT) for lights & heads only offered in a few temperatures?

A: This is largely based upon market availability at present.  As this improves, we plan to add more options.

Q: Will the Alpha Gen3 Hi/Low tail cap work on a Charlie or Bravo?

A: It will not work and will likely damage the internal circuit components of the tailcap.

Q: If I bought a Charlie light, can I purchase a Bravo body to convert it to a shorter, 2-cell unit on demand?

A: Yes! You can absolutely do exactly that.

Q: Can the High-Low tail-cap be used with The Bones model?

A: It will not work correctly due to larger inside diameter required to accommodate the 18650.

Q: I noticed the new Alpha Gen3 lights are 535 lumens. Is it possible to get that output on an older Alpha?

A: It is not possible to upgrade an Alpha since the head is integral and the module is dimensionally different.

Q: Are your lights waterproof? Are they suitable for scuba diving? If so, how deep can they go?

A: Our lights are rated to be leak-proof down to 10 meters under water.  They “may” not leak past 10 meters but we cannot guarantee this performance.

Q:  Can your lights be used for diving purposes?

A:  They are not currently rated for diving purposes beyond 10 meters at present.

Q:  Are your click switches completely silent?

A:  Our click style switches are internally dampened to produce a quiet switch with no significant audible snap action.  It is virtually impossible to completely eliminate all noise within a mechanical switch.
